
Be A Leader Foundation honors ABOR’s FAFSA director for advancing college access
The inaugural “Convivio for Tomorrow's Leaders” fundraising event recognized Julie Sainz for her advocacy in promoting higher education pathways and fostering community impact
ݮƵ Director of FAFSA and College Access Initiatives, Julie Sainz, was the recipient of the Founder’s Legacy Award from the in recognition of her dedication to uniting community leaders in support of students, public higher education and advancing awareness of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
“Julie has been a relentless advocate for postsecondary pathways and her commitment, energy and collaborative spirit have elevated the entire college access ecosystem in Arizona. We are proud to honor Julie for what she’s accomplished and the lasting impact she has had on our students, mission and movement,” said Solio J. Felix, president and chief executive officer of the Be A Leader Foundation.
Reflecting on her journey, Sainz shared, “My personal experiences with financial aid became the foundation of my life’s work. Through ABOR and our programs like the FAFSA Challenge and our peer coaching initiative, we're showing students that completing the FAFSA isn't intimidating — it's empowering. The Be A Leader Foundation has been an indispensable partner in everything we do -- always ready to listen, support and collaborate. I’m grateful for this honor and the opportunity to inspire the next generation alongside such an impactful organization.”
The award was presented at the foundation’s inaugural fundraising event, "Convivio for Tomorrow's Leaders," spotlighting the vital mission of empowering students on their path to college and celebrating the unwavering dedication of community leaders who champion higher education pathways. Held at the historic Tony F. Soza-Ray Martinez Thunderbird American Legion Post 41 in Central City South Phoenix, the event brought together students, scholarship recipients and Arizona’s education advocates for an evening filled with inspiration, connection and celebration.
The evening was both a celebration of achievements and a rally for continued progress, with funds raised directly supporting the foundation's scholarships and programs that equip students to achieve their postsecondary dreams and become tomorrow's leaders.

Her dedication has helped countless Arizona students navigate financial aid and enroll in our universities,” said Chad Sampson, executive director of ABOR. “Julie’s leadership and commitment have made her an indispensable force in Arizona and beyond, and we’re honored to see her receive this well-deserved recognition.”
